Here it is, the new way to transport 505s both on the road and
in a shipping container.
After seeing the UK 5 boat trailer we decided that we needed
something similar but had a dream to design one that could also be
used to transport the boats in a container. It took a lot of
design work but it has done a successful 2500km round trip to the
Nationals at Hamilton Island on the road and has now
been packed into a container to go to the Worlds in Sicily.
There are some important details in the design that make the
whole package just small enough to fit in a container.
Earle has funded the whole project so far but is making
the plans available for a nominal charge if others would like to
make one. He can also arrange more to be made if there is
some interest, making a few at once will reduce the cost of each.
Brisbane sent 7 boats to the worlds so should have 2, Sydney
1, Adelaide 2, Perth?, North QLD?

look at it at the Worlds in Sicily.

| All packed up for it's
first big road trip |
|
|
|
| Here the mudguards are off
and it is lifted on jockey wheels. The brake cables easily
disconnect from the rear wheels. |
Now the wheels can be
removed, they come off as 4 separate pieces so they are easy to
handle |
|
|
|
| The drawbar comes off, the
light wires are socketed to the trailer so they just unplug. |
The whole thing is lowered
and pushed into the container. |
|
|
|
| Until the weight can be
taken by the small fixed wheels and the jockey wheels removed. |
Do the same at the other
end. Note the nice supports for the boats that spread the
load on the gunwhale. |
|
|
|
| Using a couple of trolley
jacks, the small wheels are removed so the frame sits on the
floor. |
Then the rack is braced
against the sides of the container. At the bottom. |
|
|
We think that the 5th boat will fit in a high
top container but we did not have to put one there for this
trip and we found that the top of the rack is a great place to put
the launching trolleys. The 5th boat may fit in the container
but not through the door so we could put that boat in first and
temporarily sling it from the roof then put the rack in under it
and lower the boat onto it.
|
| And braced at the top, and
lashed fore and aft to the container tie down points. |
